About the book

The most famous love story in Dutch literature, rewritten so you can read it at A2. Saïdjah is a boy on Java. His father loses one buffalo after another to the district chief. Saïdjah leaves for the big city to earn money, and promises Adinda he will come back in thirty-six moons. Multatuli wrote this story in 1860 inside Max Havelaar, the book that changed how the Netherlands saw its colony. This edition tells it in short, clear Dutch for learners.
