Six short Dutch texts of the kind the Lezen A2 exam uses (an advert, a notice, an email, a letter from the municipality, a news item and a letter from the doctor), each with multiple-choice questions and the answers. Read them here, or download the PDF and do them on paper.
How the Lezen A2 exam works
Lezen A2 is one of the five parts of the inburgeringsexamen at A2. It is a computer exam of 65 minutes with about 25 multiple-choice questions, three answers each. Every question belongs to a short text, and the texts are the Dutch you meet every week: a letter from school, an advert for a room, an email from a colleague, a notice at the pharmacy, a short item from a free newspaper. The question is on the right, the text on the left, and the answer is always in the text.
Three kinds of question come back every time. Find a fact: when, where, how much, who. Find the instruction: what must you do, and by when. Find the point: why did the writer send this. The wrong answers use words from the text too, so reading the question first and then looking for exactly that is the whole technique. How to use these six texts
- Read the question first, then the text. Find the sentence that answers it before you look at the three options.
- Time yourself: six texts with four questions each in 40 minutes is slightly faster than the real exam asks.
- Only then open the answers. Mark every question you got wrong and read that text once more to see where the answer was.
- Tap the underlined words for their meaning after you have answered, not before. In the exam there is no glossary, and at A2 you can answer without knowing every word.

Wij halen uw nu op maandag op. Dat verandert. Vanaf dinsdag 3 maart halen wij het restafval op dinsdag op.
Zet uw grijze op dinsdag vóór 7.00 uur aan de straat. Wij halen hem tussen 7.00 en 16.00 uur op. Haal de container daarna weer van de straat.
De dag voor blijft hetzelfde: elke woensdag. Gft is groente, fruit en tuinafval. Dat gaat in de groene container.

Nieuwe bibliotheek in ZuidA2
Zaterdag 7 maart opent de nieuwe bibliotheek in Zuid, aan het Marktplein. Het gebouw is licht en groot. Er zijn 40.000 boeken en een café. Er is ook een stille ruimte om te studeren.
Voor kinderen tot 18 jaar is de gratis. betalen 48 euro per jaar. kunnen boeken , maar ook e-books en films.
De bibliotheek is open van maandag tot en met zaterdag. Elke dag van 10.00 tot 18.00 uur. Op donderdag is de bibliotheek open tot 21.00 uur.
Elke dinsdagmiddag is er een voor mensen die Nederlands leren. Zij praten dan Nederlands met Nederlanders, met koffie en thee. Het Taalcafé is gratis, ook zonder pas.

The PDF
The button under the title downloads all six texts with their questions, and the answer key on the last page, as one PDF. Print it, do the texts on paper as you would at a table at DUO, and check your answers afterwards. Teachers may print it for a class.
Common traps
- Times and dates. Vóór 7.00 uur is not the same as om 7.00 uur; tussen 9.00 en 12.30 uur is not the same as tot 12.30 uur. Read every number twice.
- The small words that turn a sentence around: niet, geen, pas, alleen, ook, nog. "Zijn trein is pas om 9.15 uur op het station" says the train is late, not early.
- Who writes to whom. A letter from the pharmacy and a letter from the doctor ask you for different things. Look at the signature before you answer "what must you do".
- An answer that is true but not asked. "The library is open on Saturday" can be true and still the wrong answer to "when is it open in the evening".
- Reading the whole text first. At A2 you will not know every word, and you do not need to. Find the sentence that matches the question.
After these six
Do the official practice exams at inburgeren.nl: they are free, they use the real software, and they show you your score. Then read every day at A2, because the words in the exam texts are the words of the free A2 texts on this site: the doctor, the market, the bike, the school. If you are not sure the exam level is yours yet, the level test takes ten minutes.
Are these the real exam texts?
No. The real texts are secret and change with every exam. These six are written in the same format, at the same level, with the same kinds of question, so that the real exam looks familiar. For the official format, do the practice exams at inburgeren.nl as well.
How many practice texts should I do before the exam?
Enough that the format is boring: these six, the official practice exams, and then a free A2 text a day for the words. Twenty texts in the exam format is plenty; two hundred texts at your level is what makes you fast.
Is there a B1 version?
Not yet. B1 exam practice is on the list for this site; the newsletter tells you when it is up. Until then, the official B1 practice exams at inburgeren.nl are free.
